In my work with the community, I get the opportunity to see the good as well as the bad influences that keep other teens from making good decisions. I want to help with providing my peers with not only the knowledge, but the support to make good decisions in life. At our age, we are being pushed and influenced by so many pressures of society -- whether it is our friends, family or simply a celebrity on T.V. There is so much going on, so many traps to fall into -- especially traps dealing with drugs and alcohol abuse. Many teens start abusing their body with substances because of low self-esteem. They want to look "cool," and be accepted by the crowd. However, the truth is, the majority of teenagers are not taking drugs, alcohol, or even involved with violence. There are a vast number of teens that enjoy life just the way it is -- without having to harm themselves mentally or physically. I want to be an example to those who are involved with or thinking about getting involved with drugs or alcohol. I want to let my peers know that it's okay to have fun in life and not have to worry about "fitting in" all of the time!. It's okay to ask for help and seek advice from those who can truly help instead of turning to a drug that will only temporarily take your mind off of your problem. When things get tough, stick to your guns and keep on pushing. It's all a mind game which you will win if you stay strong and push on. I have friends who have done drugs before, and the negative effects that drugs had on my friends is part of why I say no. My strong respect for myself and my body have helped me to say drug-free. It's time for us to Stand Up, Stand Out and Stand Against Drugs!
